What is OpenAthens?
Whether you're studying from home or working abroad, OpenAthens ensures that you can still reach American Academy of Pediatrics’s full range of electronic resources. By signing in with your American Pediatrics account, you get the same access as you would on campus—fast, secure, and hassle-free.
Why use OpenAthens?
Many of the resources provided by American Academy of Pediatrics, such as databases and e-journals, are restricted to users on the campus network. OpenAthens allows you to access these resources remotely by securely confirming your American Pediatrics login, so you don’t have to be on site to get what you need.
What’s the difference between EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN?
When comparing EZproxy, OpenAthens, and VPN, it’s helpful to think about what each tool is designed to do. VPNs are great for full network access, allowing staff and faculty to use internal tools as if they were on campus. EZproxy and OpenAthens, however, are designed specifically for accessing library and academic resources. OpenAthens improves on EZproxy by using modern identity-based access instead of relying on IP ranges, making it easier to manage access permissions across different publishers and platforms.
